Of Organising Events

The Chinese are very humble - nothing is taken for granted. Even a simple training requires layers and layers of approval from the health bureau, et cetera.

The 13 hour bus ride to 芒市, and thereafter to Dehong, served a single purpose: to meet with the authorities face to face to discuss the plans and to disseminate, and receive, information. Here's what's different from Singapore, and possibly also from all First World Countries: things like these that you'd think can be settled easily via email, is better settled over a cup of tea and a smoke. And thus the necessity of this trip, which comprises a 13 hour overnight bus-ride (in bunk-beds), there and back respectively.

Unlike back home or in developed countries, simple conveniences are not taken for granted: we don't barge in expecting to get what we want, when we want. We meet, face to face, and humbly, make our requests. It's much slower, but definitely enriching, and exceedingly humbling.
